Cathedral of Ekaterinburg Saints: Day of Remembrance of the Venerable Martyrs Jakinthos (Pitatelev) and Callistus (Oparin)translated

On October 30, the Orthodox Church commemorates the venerable martyrs Jakinthos (Pitatelev) and Callistus (Oparin).

The monks Iakinthos and Callistus were residents of the St. Nicholas Monastery. In October 1918, with the blessing of the abbot, they protected the Malo-Aktai monastery from plunder, but were captured by the Red Army and suffered martyrdom at their hands.

The Venerable Martyr Iakinthos (Ilya Ivanovich Pitatelev) was born in 1882 in the Ust-Aktai village of Novoselovsk volost, Verkhoturye district, Perm province, into a peasant family. Representatives of the Pitatelev family settled in the Urals at the beginning of the 17th century and took part in the construction of Verkhoturye, remaining to live in a new place.

Ilya Pitatelev chose a spiritual career for himself, especially after communicating with the elder Ilya (Chebotarev), who lived near the monastery on Aktai, a village that was formerly owned by the Pitatelev family. Elder Elijah died in 1900 and, apparently, shortly before that he blessed Elijah to enter the monastery.

On October 12, 1912, Ilya Ivanovich entered the St. Nicholas Verkhoturye Monastery.
