Cathedral of Ekaterinburg Saints: September 9 is the day of remembrance of the Hieromartyr Pavel Fokintranslated

Hieromartyr Pavel Fokin was born in 1881 into the family of a deacon. His mother was a prosphora drinker. In addition to Pavel, the family raised two more sons, who later became priests, and two daughters: Evgenia and Vera.

Like his brothers, Pavel Ivanovich chose the spiritual path: he entered the Perm Theological Seminary. In 1905 he was ordained a deacon. Served in churches of the Perm diocese.

In March 1912, the deacon was transferred to Yekaterinburg, to the Catherine Cathedral - one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in the city. In December of the same year, Father Pavel was awarded ordination to the priesthood and was assigned to serve in the Sretenskaya Church in the village of Murzinsky, Verkhoturye district.

In 1918, mass terror began in the Middle Urals. Almost everywhere where Red Guard detachments appeared, clergymen were arrested. Of all the church and clergy in the village of Murzinsky, Father Pavel was apparently the most zealous and active: he delivered sermons and personally talked with parishioners. This was charged to him with anti-Soviet agitation. Under the threat of arrest and prosecution by the Revolutionary Tribunal, the clergy of the Sretenskaya Church were officially prohibited from “all agitation,” and from the father...

Father Paweł was really zealous, since the reds so quickly forbade him from preaching and talking to people. I wonder what happened to his sisters Eugenia and Weronika - whether they stayed in Perm or had to flee. Thanks for reminding us of this martyr from our council.
