“Bad language is a poison that kills the soul...”translated

October 22, 2026 · 1 min read

As part of the Week of Parental Love, the rector of the parish of the Church of the Great Martyr Paraskeva Pyatnitsa, Archpriest Vyacheslav Lobets, held a lecture-conversation with students of the State Educational Institution “Orekhovskaya Secondary School named after N.L. Kostyuchenko, Ushachi district." The topic of the conversation is “Bad language is a poison that kills the soul.”

The level of speech culture today is so catastrophically low that famous people are not ashamed to resort to “profanity,” as swearing is called in linguistics, let alone “mere mortals”: many speak in obscene language, managing to hardly resort to other words. All this is very sad, especially because foul language is not only and not so much a cultural problem.

Father Vyacheslav spoke with the children about why foul language is evil, why it is dangerous from a spiritual point of view, and what powers the person who curses calls on, giving advice on how to refrain from foul language and how to resist the temptation to curse.

The children listened to the priest very carefully and asked questions on the topic.
