Saint Martyr Emilian from Durostorum, commemorated on July 18, is the spiritual protector of over 123,000 Romanians.

According to the data sent by the General Directorate for the Records of Persons within the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 123,077 Romanians bear the name of Saint Emilian and its derivatives.

Of these, more than 74,000 women bear the name of the saint mentioned on July 18. The most common names among ladies are Emilia, carried by 67,438 people, followed by Milica, 3,434 and Emily, 2,664 people. Other derived names are Ena, Mica and Mili.

Among the approximately 49,000 men who bear the name of the holy martyr in the Romanian space, Emil is the most common name, with over 47,000 owners and Milica/Milică, having this name approximately 900 people. Other derived names are Emi and Emilut/Emilut.

Saint Martyr Emilian from Durostorum is honored as one of the first martyrs of Christianity in the current territory of Romania. He confessed his faith in Christ during the persecution of Emperor Julian the Apostate and was killed by burning, on July 18, 362, in the fortress of Durostorum (today's Silistra, in...

Radu GheorghiuInteresant, nu știam că sunt așa de mulți Emili și Emilii în țară, peste 123 de mii. Eu am un coleg de tură care se numește Emil și zice că de ziua lui pe 18 iulie merge mereu la biserică. Sfântul Emilian din Durostorum e aproape de noi, tot în zona Dunării.
