St. Antimus of Nicomedia was honored in Galatia: On the road to martyrdom he practiced philanthropytranslated

September 4, 2026 · 1 min read

Saint Antimus of Nicomedia was honored on Thursday in Galați. His Holiness Father Casian, Archbishop of Lower Danube, highlighted the sacrificial love of the saint: "On the way to martyrdom he practiced philanthropy".

Numerous believers of the Parish "Holy Martyr Antim and Holy Myrrh-Smelling Women" attended the service, including children.

The hierarch spoke about the life of the Holy Martyr Antimus, Bishop of Nicomidia, martyred in 303, as well as about the connection between the two shrines of the Galatian church: the one dedicated to Saint Antimus and that of the Holy Myrrh-bearing Women.

After the Holy Liturgy, 20 students from Secondary School no. 38 "Grigore Moisil" from Galati received schoolbags with school supplies and other gifts from the hierarch.

The action is part of the diocesan program "Christ in school", through which 3,300 students from Galati and Brăila counties, from families with limited financial means, receive fully equipped school bags before the start of the new school year.

Glory to God! Nice that they mentioned how Saint Antimus gave alms on the way to martyrdom, not just at the end. The children from School 38 received really good schoolbags before school, and the "Christ in the School" program really helps where it's needed. In our parish we could do something similar.
