Orthodox calendar, October 2 St. Holy Mc. Cyprian and St. Mc. Justina the virgin The Holy Martyr Cyprian was also called the Magician or the Wizard. During the time of Emperor Decius (249-251) he lived in Antioch (between Syria and Arabia). His parents were pagans and superstitious people.

From a young age he was initiated into the mysteries of paganism, and at the age of 10 he took part in bringing sacrifices to Mount Olympus (Greece) where it was believed to be the abode of the gods.

From here he went to Argos (Greece), to Phrygia (Asia Minor), to Egypt and Chaldea where he learned the sciences of magic and astrology, becoming a well-known sorcerer of his time.

In the same city, Antioch, was also the Holy Martyr Justina, the daughter of the pagan priest Edesis and his wife Kleonida.

Iustina hearing the Christian deacon Prailie speaking about Christ to some people, believed and joined the Church of Christ, later her parents too, finally receiving baptism.

A young man from Antioch, Aglaid, seeing Iustina's beauty, tried in every way to take her as his wife.

But Justina's love for our Lord Jesus Christ was too great for Aglaid to succeed in convincing her. Then the young man…
