Orthodox calendar, July 16 Holy Martyr Atinogenes The Holy Martyr Atinoghenus, originally from Sevastia in Cappadocia, was bishop of the city of Pidahtoea.

During the persecution of Emperor Diocletian, Saint Atinogenes retired to a hermitage near the village of Pidaton. Here he lived together with 10 disciples in prayer. One day, while Saint Atinogenes was not in the hermitage, his disciples were caught by order of the governor Philomarchus and then killed.

Going in search of them, Atinoghen found them in the governor's dungeon and reprimanded him, drawing the governor's anger, who ordered that he be killed.

However, his last wish was respected, that of receiving death in his monastery, by cutting off his head.

On the way to the monastery, a deer that Atinoghen sometimes fed with his hand ran towards him and, seeing him in torment, began to cry.

Atinogenes, his priests and disciples moved to the Lord in 311.

An interesting story with that caprice who ran and cried when she was leading him to the execution. You can't make this up. Perhaps, we sometimes do not notice how animals feel more than it seems.

The story of the capriora who ran away crying when he was being taken for beheading is indeed powerful. He fed her from his hand, so she knew him well. It reminds us of how many things around us they see and feel that we often overlook.
