Orthodox calendar, July 22 Holy Confessor Priest Ilie Lăcătusu The holy Witness Priest Ilie Lăcătușu was born on December 8, 1909 in the village of Țepesti, Crăpăturile commune, in Vâlcea county. His parents, Marin and Maria, were faithful people and engaged in working the land. They had seven children, Elijah being the second child of the family.

Saint Ilie attends school in Şerbăneşti-Tetoiu commune, then Saint Nicholas Theological Seminary in Râmnicu Vâlcea and completes his studies at the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest.

On July 5, 1931, he married the teacher Ecaterina Popescu, with whom he founded a beautiful Christian family. God blesses their family with five children, but four of them go to the Lord at a young age, causing much pain in their parents' hearts.

The young Ilie was ordained a deacon on August 27, 1934, then, the next day, a priest at the Osica de Jos parish in Olt county, by Bishop Vartolomeu Stănescu of Râmnicului-Noul Severin.
