St. John of Rila, honored 1,080 years after passing to the Lord: He is a source of hope, says the Patriarch of Bulgariatranslated

St. Pious John was honored on Wednesday at the Rila Monastery, in Bulgaria, on the 1,080th anniversary of his passing to the Lord.

On this occasion, Blessed Father Daniil, the Patriarch of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church, highlighted the spiritual legacy of the saint, whom he presented as a "source of hope, spiritual help, example and guide for our lives".

The celebrations dedicated to the celebration began on the eve, with the all-night vigil service, which was attended by hierarchs, clerics and many believers. In the same period, the Rila Monastery received the miracle-working icon of the Mother of God from Hawaii for veneration.

Testimony for the Bulgarian people The Holy Liturgy on the day of the feast was officiated by His Beatitude, where he emphasized that the passage of Saint John of Rila into eternity, which happened 1080 years ago, did not in any way diminish his work on those who ask for his intercession.

Thanks for the article. I especially liked how Patriarch Daniil called it a "source of hope" - that's exactly what I feel when I go with my wife and daughter to the Rila Monastery and worship the relics. Interesting that they brought the icon from Hawaii just now, it must have been a powerful experience for everyone.
