Orthodox calendar, September 25 Pious Euphrosyne Pious Euphrosyne was the daughter of a rich Christian from Alexandria (Egypt), named Paphnutius. He lived during the reign of Emperor Theodosius II (408-450). God testing Paphnutius' faith, first his wife dies, and then Euphrosyne disappears from home, when she was 18 years old.

It was only after 33 years that Pafnutie managed to see his daughter again, during which time he constantly prayed to God to be worthy to see his daughter once more before he died. Euphrosyne had entered the monastery under the name of Brother Smaragd, leaving her father and fiancé.

Three days before he died, Pafnutius was at the monastery where his daughter spent her monastic life and hearing about brother Smaragd that he was dying, he went to him to help him with a word of comfort.

Discovering her father, Pious Euphrosyne reveals his identity, after which she entrusts her soul to God. Pafnutie remained in the same cell for another 10 years, after which he also passed to the eternal ones.
