Orthodox calendar July 6 St. Cuv. Dometie the Merciful from Râmeţ Saint Pious Dometie was born on October 13, 1924, in Bălăneşti commune, Buzău county, of pious parents, receiving the name Stelian at baptism. From his infancy he showed a lot of love for the service of God and for people in suffering.

He attended the courses of the Theological Seminary in Buzău, which he graduated as head of graduation in 1945. In the same year, he enrolled at the Faculty of Theology in Bucharest, which he graduated in 1949. Both his bachelor's thesis and his doctoral thesis, which he worked on in the period 1972-1975, were carried out under the coordination of the Holy Priest Witness Dumitru Stâniloae.

He was ordained a deacon at the Hodoş-Bodrog Monastery in the Diocese of Arad, on August 6, 1949, and he received the great gift of the priesthood on August 7, 1949, at the Episcopal Cathedral in Arad, being ordained on behalf of the Prislop Monastery by Bishop Andrei Magieru. I had heard of Father Dumitru Staniloae, but I didn't know that it was he who supervised the doctorate of St. Dometius. Interestingly, since he was a child, he liked to help people in need - as a fisherman, and I often see such people on the beach in Burgas. God forgive him!

Interestingly, his doctoral dissertation was also with father Dumitru Staniloae. From a young age, he showed love to the victims, and then his whole life passed through the monasteries - from Hodoś-Bodrog to Prislop. May God forgive him.

It is interesting that he wrote both his diploma and doctoral dissertation from his father Dumitru Staniloae. I also remember how on October 13, 1924 I was born in Balanesti and from childhood I was drawn to helping the suffering. May God rest him in peace.

Yes, it is very interesting how even as a child he was drawn to care for the sick and the poor, and later he translated all that into monastic life with Arsenius and the Seraphim. A doctorate with Father Stăniloae must have given him the depth you feel when you read his stuff. Did you maybe read something specific from him?

It is interesting that he wrote both his diploma and doctoral dissertation from his father Dumitru Staniloae. I also remember how I was born on October 13, 1924 in Balanesti and from childhood I was drawn to helping those suffering. In Yekaterinburg, we also meet such quiet souls in church who will simply sit next to the sick. God rest his soul.

Yes, that's exactly what is interesting about Stăniloae's doctorate, you can see that he wanted depth, not just books. And that from when I was little with the sick reminds me of my grandfather who also went around the village visiting the sick before he became a deacon. Have you read any of his sermons from Prislop?
