Orthodox calendar October 5 St. Cuv. Daniil and Misail from Turnu Monastery The holy hermits Daniil and Misail were born in the second half of the 16th century in the parts of Oltenia. Both of them, since their youth, were lovers of suffering for God and desirous of a holy life, having a fervent love for the Savior Jesus Christ and for His Most Pure Mother.
That is why, obeying the holy commandment of the Lord: He who wants to come after me must renounce himself, take his cross and follow me, they left home, parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and entered the Cozia Monastery as brothers, living in obedience and humility, following the Son of God, the One who became obedient to the Father for us, until death on the cross.
They learned the secret of suffering, acquiring the gift of prayer and love for God. So, going through all the spiritual trials according to the order, they obeyed the commands of their abbot and the brothers, being living examples of neediness in everything. Not long after they entered the monastery, for their many efforts and for their zeal for God, they made themselves worthy of the much-desired monastic scheme, receiving the haircut...
