Orthodox calendar October 6 Saint Thomas the Apostle Saint Thomas the Apostle was born in the city of Paneada (also called Philip's Caesarea), in Galilee. The name of Toma, in Aramaic, means twin, like Didymos in Greek, being added to his name of Judas, received at circumcision.

He knew the Savior Christ, believed in Him and followed Him. He was not a scholar, but he brought to Christ an honest and courageous soul, which could love Him to the point of death. For that reason, he was chosen by Christ and counted among his twelve disciples.

Saint John the Evangelist mentions Thomas saying that, after the death of Lazarus, the Apostles begged the Savior not to return to Judea, where, a little before, he had been threatened with being stoned to death, but the Apostle Thomas, showing obedience and sacrificial love for the Lord, said: "Let us go and die with Him!" (John 11, 16).

Likewise, in the evening of the Last Supper, when Jesus says "You know where I am going, and you also know the way", the Apostle Thomas asks: "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" , and Jesus answers him: "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one...

Toma this chiar m-a pus pe mêtre azi. Zice "Să mergem să murim și noi sămătă cu El" when the others se codeau, și mai later entreabă direct "Doamne, nu știm unde Te duci". Mi se pare om ca noi, cu curaj dar și cu questions simple. I ask you cum ar fi fost să fiu eu în locul lui la Cina cea de Taină.
