A television series was filmed in Greece about one of the famous ascetics of Holy Mount Athos - St. Joseph the Hesychast.
The series was created by the Institute “St. Maximus the Greek”, and Mega TV channel plans to show it this coming winter, reports the website of the Union of Orthodox Journalists with reference to Orthodoxia News Agency.
According to the authors of the series, it will reveal to viewers the earthly life of Holy Mount Athos, its ascetics, their struggle with temptations and the practice of mental prayer (the practice of hesychasm).
As for the life of the main character of the project, Reverend Joseph the Hesychast, the series will tell about his childhood, and a lot about his youth, in which the future ascetic endured many trials.
“The future saint took on various jobs to help a poor family. He traveled, left his home, experienced disappointments, but did not lose trust in God. His life is shown against the backdrop of the customs and traditions of the island of Paros, where he grew up,” the statement said.
Reverend Joseph the Hesychast (+ 1959) is an Athonite ascetic and spiritual mentor, whose spiritual heritage influenced the revival of the hesychast tradition on Holy Mount Athos in the 20th century.
