Serbian Orthodox Church and government sign €100,000 support agreement for Church charity

The Serbian Orthodox Church and Serbia’s Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs signed an agreement in Belgrade on Friday, September 18, continuing their cooperation in support of the charitable work of the Archdiocese of Belgrade and Karlovci.

The agreement was signed at the Patriarchal Palace, in the presence of Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia, by Bishop Petar of Toplica and Minister Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski.

Under the agreement, the Ministry will provide 12 million Serbian dinars in financial support for the Church’s charitable organization and its humanitarian and social programs.

Bishop Petar said the organization provides food to more than 2,000 people every day, while also distributing clothing and footwear to homeless people, providing free medical and legal assistance, supporting people struggling with addiction, and assisting large families and single parents.

He stressed that the Church’s primary role is to bear witness to the equal dignity and value of every person.

Đurđević Stamenkovski said caring for people represents an important area of cooperation between the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian state.
