On October 9, the Russian Church celebrates the glorification (1989) of St. Tikhon, the first Primate of the Church after the restoration of the patriarchate in Russia.

Saint Tikhon (in the world Vasily Ivanovich Bellavin) was born on January 19, 1865 in the Pskov village of Klin. The future patriarch spent his childhood in the city of Toropets, Pskov province. In 1878 he graduated from college, and after that from the Pskov Theological Seminary and the St. Petersburg Theological Academy.

On December 14, 1891, in the Church of the Three Saints at the Pskov Seminary, Vasily Bellavin was tonsured a monk with the name Tikhon (in honor of St. Tikhon of Zadonsk). Soon he was successively elevated to the rank of hierodeacon and hieromonk.

On October 19, 1897, in the Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra of St. Petersburg, he was ordained Bishop of Lublin, vicar of the Warsaw diocese.

In the fall of 1898, Bishop Tikhon was transferred to one of the most distant departments - the Aleutian-Alaskan. In May 1905, he was elevated to Archbishop of the Aleutians and North America.

On January 25, 1907, Saint Tikhon was appointed Archbishop of Yaroslavl and Rostov, after which he returned to Russia. On January 2, 1914, he was transferred to a new department -...
