Today, October 22, the Church honors the memory of the Apostle James Alfeevtranslated

On October 22, the Orthodox Church honors the memory of one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ, Saint James Alpheus (+ 1st century).
Not much information has reached us about this disciple of the Lord. It is known that he was the brother of the apostle and evangelist Matthew.
After the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles, which occurred after the Ascension of Christ, Saint James Alpheus made missionary journeys with Saint Andrew the First-Called.
In particular, he preached in Judea, Edessa, Gaza, and Eleutheropolis, where he converted many to the path of salvation.
According to Tradition, in the Egyptian seaside town of Ostratsyn, on the border with Palestine, Saint James Alpheus suffered martyrdom on the cross.
