Saint John is a unique figure in the history of the 20th century. Russian saint, whose life and ministry took place outside Russia, among emigration - in the Far East, on the islands in the Pacific Ocean, then in the USA and Europe.
Here is just one of many examples that shows what the saint was like: in Shanghai in the 1930s, he created an orphanage, the number of pupils of which in a short time grew to several hundred people. Vladyka himself searched for sick and starving children in the Shanghai slums. Once he bought a baby girl from a beggar Chinese tramp for a bottle of vodka, which he was going to throw in a trash container.
