Today, October 10, the Church remembers St. Savvaty of Solovetskytranslated

On October 10, the Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of one of the famous ascetics of the Russian North, St. Savvaty of Solovetsky (+ 1435).
"Zosima and Savvaty Solovetsky with their lives" (fragment), XVIII century, State Historical Museum, Moscow The future saint took monastic vows in 1396 at the famous Kirillo-Belozersky Monastery. In this monastery the Monk Savvaty labored for a long time, going through all the monastic obediences and acquiring true love for his neighbors.
However, burdened by too much attention from other monks and laymen who came to the monastery, Savvaty moved to Lake Ladoga, to the rocky island of Valaam. But even there he was burdened by worldly glory. Having learned that there was an uninhabited Solovetsky Island in the north, the monk began to ask the abbot to let him go there, and without receiving permission, but by the special instructions of God, he secretly at night headed to the shores of the White Sea.
Having reached there, the monk first settled in a chapel that stood at the mouth of the Vyga River, in the town of Soroki. Having met there with a hermit - the Venerable Herman, he moved with him to Solovki. The ascetics settled near Sekirnaya Mountain, where they erected a cross and a cell.
