Monday marks the 81st anniversary of the passing to the Lord of the Protosinghel Vichentie Mălău, one of the great clergymen of Moldova and mentor of Saint Cleopa from Sihăstria.

He was born on November 28, 1887, in the village of Ghidion, Neamt county. His life was marked since childhood by choosing the monastic path.

When he was only seven years old, his parents entered monasticism together with the family's three children. The father and son went to the Secu Monastery, while the mother and two daughters chose the Văratec Monastery.

In 1895, together with his father, he went to the Holy Mount Athos, where he spent 11 years in need and spiritual formation with Athonite parents.

A blessed work Returning to the Secu Monastery in 1906, the two were ordained into monasticism in 1912, the father receiving the name Dometian, and the son the name Vichentie.

After his ordination as a hieromonk, in 1915, Father Vichentie was appointed ecclesiarch and priest of the Secu Monastery. During the First World War he served as a priest in field hospitals, providing spiritual support to the wounded.
