It is 65 years since the passage to the Lord of St. Hilarion Felea: Priest, teacher and martyr in communist prisonstranslated

Friday marks the 65th anniversary of the passing to the Lord of the Holy Martyr Priest Ilarion Felea, who professed the Orthodox faith both through his pastoral and didactic activity and through his years of detention in communist prisons.

He was born on March 21, 1903, in Valea Bradului, Hunedoara county, in a priest's family. After his primary and high school studies in Brad and Arad, he graduated from the "Andreian" Theological Academy in Sibiu in 1926.

He was ordained a priest on July 29, 1927, in the Archdiocese of Sibiu, and in the same year he began to serve in Valea Bradului. From 1930, he became a parish priest in Arad-Șega.

In parallel with his priestly ministry, between 1927 and 1929 he attended the courses of the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy in Cluj, and in 1932 he completed his undergraduate studies in Theology in Bucharest. On October 30, 1939, he defended his doctoral thesis, with the thesis "Repentance, study of theological and psychological documentation".

His publishing activity began during his student days, in 1924, when he debuted in "Revista Teologica" from Sibiu.

Teacher and preacher of the Gospel Starting in 1937, he entered theological education, first as a teacher...

Saint Hilarion Felea was from a priest's family, like my father, and that's how he ended up serving in the parish since his youth. I was impressed that he did his doctorate precisely on the topic of repentance - as if he knew what was waiting for him in communist prisons. Do we still have priests today who write so seriously and live what they write?
