Friday marks the 40th anniversary of the transition to the Lord of Patriarch Iustin Moisescu, one of the most erudite hierarchs of the Romanian Orthodox Church and founder of Romanian theological culture.

Patriarch Iustin Moisescu was born on March 5, 1910, in Cândêști commune, Argeş county. He attended the War Orphans Seminary in Campulung-Muscel, then the Faculty of Theology in Athens, continuing his studies in Strasbourg and again in Athens, where he obtained his doctorate in theology with the work "Evagria of Pontus. Life, writings and teaching".

He carried out a rich didactic activity, being a professor of Latin at the "Nifon" Seminary in Bucharest and of the New Testament at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Warsaw, then a professor of New Testament Exegesis at the Faculties of Theology in Chernivtsi and Bucharest.

In 1956 he was ordained a celibate priest and elected Archbishop of Sibiu and Metropolitan of Transylvania. A year later he became Archbishop of Iasi and Metropolitan of Moldavia and Suceava, where he pastored for two decades.
