"The lesson of Bârsana is one that goes beyond the boundaries of this community: to move forward without forgetting where you come from; to be contemporary without becoming a stranger to your own roots; to enter into universality without abandoning your identity", Bishop Iustin of Maramureș and Sătmaru sent on Tuesday, in a message dedicated to the 700th anniversary of the first documentary attestation of the locality.

"Memory is responsibility. To remember means to take care. The seven hundred years of Bârsana, therefore, do not belong only to the past. They also belong to the future. We are keepers of a holy heritage and debtors with responsibility towards future generations," His Eminence also wrote.

The hierarch participated on the same day in the jubilee events dedicated to the completion of seven centuries of documentary attestation. The demonstrations began in the Church of the Bârsana Monastery in Maramureș county, with a Te Deum service, and continued with a Parastas officiated by the Most Reverend Father Iustin, the Bishop of Maramureș and Sătmar.
