Russian President Vladimir Putin called what is now happening in Ukraine with the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church terrible.

“The international community is silent, but terrible things are happening to the Church there: they kill priests, throw people out of churches, seize churches,” Vladimir Putin said on October 1, 2026 at a meeting of the Valdai discussion club.

And to such a situation, the President of Russia continued, the international community does not react in any way.

- Silence, as if nothing was happening. Why? Because this is also used by Western sponsors, in this case European ones, to resolve the issue of the final separation of both territories and people from Russia and create conditions for the impossibility of coexistence, peaceful coexistence in the future,” the head of state noted.
