480 years have passed since the death of ruler Petru Rareștranslated

Ruler Petru Rareș passed to the eternal ones 480 years ago. His name is associated with the most flourishing period of exterior paintings in the monasteries of northern Moldova.
Petru Rareș had two reigns in Moldova: 1527 – 1538 and 1541 – 1546. The two periods were marked by numerous external challenges, as the region was surrounded by Turks, Tatars and Poles. In addition to the defense of the country's borders, he pursued the consolidation of Moldova on the international level.
The personality of the Moldavian voivode was fully manifested in the field of arts, which he supported with great courage. He ordered the construction of the new edifice of the Probota Monastery, the family necropolis.
Among the monasteries founded or renovated by the ruler and his family are the Moldovița, Bistriţa and Căpriana monasteries. Some of the churches of these monasteries preserve frescoes from the period of the ruler.
