The head of the diocesan Department for Prison Ministry took part in a seminar on issues of interaction between the clergy and employees of the Federal Penitentiary Servicetranslated

On October 20, 2026, with the blessing of Archbishop Varlaam of Makhachkala and Derbent, the head of the diocesan Department for Prison Ministry, Priest Sergiy Abasov, visited the Office of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Republic of Dagestan and took part via videoconference in a training seminar “Features of joint activities of the clergy and penitentiary workers in the field of correction, resocialization and spiritual and moral education suspects, accused and convicted persons held in penal institutions."

The following were invited to participate in the event: assistant chiefs for organizing work with believers of the territorial bodies of the Federal Penitentiary Service, pre-trial detention centers, and correctional institutions; heads and employees of departments of educational and social work with convicts of the territorial bodies of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia; heads of psychological services, as well as clergy of the main traditional religious associations of Russia.

The seminar was conducted by the head of the department for organizing work with believers of the Department of Educational, Social and Psychological Work of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, Colonel of the Internal Service Sergei Ivanovich Gurov.
