Romanian church in Canada rises again after 2023 fire, Patriarch Daniel says

His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel of Romania sent a message of congratulations and blessing on Saturday for the consecration of the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God and St Demetrius the Myrrh-Gusher at the Romanian Orthodox parish in Boian, Alberta, Canada.
The community rebuilt its church after a fire destroyed its more-than-century-old place of worship in 2023.
“The consecration of the church in Boian on this great feast day has a special spiritual significance. Following the severe trial endured by the community in 2023, when the old place of worship was consumed by fire, today bears luminous witness that hope can spring from adversity, solidarity can grow out of suffering, and from loss, through faith and common endeavour, a new beginning can be born,” His Beatitude said.
Patriarch Daniel stressed that the new church in Boian does not belong only to the generation that rebuilt it, but serves as a bridge between generations: “It receives the heritage of those who founded the community more than a century ago and entrusts it to the children and young people of today, so that they, in turn, may pass it on to those who come after them.”
