There is a non-spectacular face of holiness: there are those saints who did not become hermits, were not martyred by the executioner or some terrible disease, but just fulfilled their life's tasks naturally, with love, humility and piety.

It is the face of our grandparents and great-grandparents, closely connected to the work of the land and the church in the village.

"Remember your elders..." These faces remained imprinted in the hearts of those who knew them - even if they were passengers, in early childhood. Thus, those in the lineage of these people are aware that they carry with them a secret treasure, which they are called to at least honor, if not follow as a model.

These faces are all the more special in the case of gentle and humble mothers and grandmothers, who gave the Church sons and daughters, grandsons and granddaughters. They did their duty in the family and in the community without impressing with spectacular gestures, but only with their presence, attitude and constant support to those around them.

Call to the vocation of motherhood The Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church chose this year to pay homage to Romanian women with holy lives, among them numerous mothers of saints.
