Restoration begins at historic Monastery of the Archangels in Derviçan

Restoration work has begun at the historic Monastery of the Holy Archangels in Derviçan, a religious and architectural monument deeply rooted in the history and identity of the area.

The restoration project will be carried out in two phases and aims to preserve the monastery complex, which consists of the katholikon and monastic cells. The surviving structures bear witness to the region’s longstanding monastic tradition and preserve characteristic elements of traditional stone architecture.

The first phase of the project will focus on restoring the monastic cells, which have fallen into ruin as a result of deterioration over time.

The planned work includes cleaning and reinforcing the masonry, as well as replacing the wooden roofs, floors and other timber structures using traditional techniques.

The interventions are expected gradually to restore the monastery’s functionality and contribute to its preservation as a living site of religious and cultural heritage.
