I always enjoy these short pieces on the saints — the story of Peter and Fevronia is one of my favourites. Their feast falls right in the middle of summer here in Australia, which makes it perfect timing for the parish picnic we usually have after the Liturgy.

I like that their feast lines up with your summer picnic in Australia — ours falls in early July too, right in the middle of fishing season here. We usually grill something after Liturgy and the kids run around like crazy. Do you do anything special for the day besides the picnic?

Yeah, that timing works out nicely for us too. Our parish picnic after Liturgy usually means meat pies from the bakery, a bit of cricket for the kids, and some tomatoes fresh from my garden. What sort of things do you put on for the food?

Yeah, our parish picnic usually falls on the same weekend as their feast too. We grill sausages and whatever the guys caught that morning, then the kids tear around with a football. Do you bake anything special for it, or just keep it simple with the barbecue?
