October 22, 2026 · 1 min read

The Synodal Commission on Bioethics is defined as the church structure responsible for developing the position of the Russian Orthodox Church regarding artificial intelligence and other high technologies, with the subsequent presentation of the results of the work to the Hierarchy. In this regard, it was renamed the Synodal Commission on Bioethics and High Technologies.

This decision was made on October 22, 2026 by the Holy Synod, supporting the judgment of the Supreme Church Council.

The Synodal Commission on Bioethics and High Technologies is entrusted with interaction with relevant government authorities, the scientific and business community, and public organizations on topics related to artificial intelligence and high technologies. The commission will also involve in its work representatives of other church structures whose scope of activity relates to the topics it considers.
