"In the Mother of God we see the most intimate connection between God and humanity," Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Paisie Sinait emphasized on Saturday.

His Eminence officiated the Holy Liturgy at the Chapel of the National Cathedral on the occasion of the feast of the Assumption of the Mother of God.

"Holy Father Dumitru Stăniloae emphasizes precisely this truth: the Church calls the Virgin Mary Mother of God because the Person who is born from her according to the flesh is the same eternal Person of the divine Word. Therefore, by honoring the Mother of God, we confess Christ", said the hierarch.

The Most Reverend Father Paisie Sinait explained what the Assumption of the Mother of God means: "The Mother of God passed through death. We are not talking about an apparent death. Her soul separated from her body. That is why the Church speaks of the Assumption."

"The Mother of God did not remain in the grave. Her body did not know corruption. The Mother of God is alive in Christ, not only with the soul, but with the glorified soul and body. This is the mystery we celebrate."
