"God ordained that the relics of a humble monk should be placed in the heart of the Capital," Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Paisie Sinait emphasized on Monday.

His Eminence officiated the Holy Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral, on the occasion of the celebration of the bringing of the relics of Saint Demetrius the New to Bucharest.

The hierarch explained that the honoring of the pious saint is not only the commemoration of a historical event, but the discovery of God's care towards His Church.

"In the life of the Church, the feasts of the saints do not only call us to remember events of the past, but to discover the way in which God continues to work in the life of the Church and in the life of every believer."

"What the Lord accomplished through His grace in those who loved Him does not belong only to the past, but remains alive in the Church and bears fruit incessantly in the lives of the faithful", said His Eminence.

How nice what Bishop Paisie said about God placing the relics of a humble monk right in the center of Bucharest. I kept thinking about that phrase that the feasts of the saints are not only to remember the past, but to see how God continues to act in each of us today. I wish I could go to the cathedral one of these days and feel a little of that.
