That bit about the two blind men just crying “have mercy” instead of listing exactly what they wanted really hit me. It’s the same as when I catch myself over-explaining my problems in the Jesus Prayer instead of just saying “Lord have mercy” and trusting He already knows. The part about not crushing the personal mystery by broadcasting every miracle is a good reminder too — I’ve definitely overshared before.

Sarah, that part about the blind men just crying for mercy instead of spelling it out stuck with me too. I’ve done the same thing in the Jesus Prayer, going on about my daughter’s exams or my aching knee when really it’s enough to say “Lord have mercy” and let Him sort it. The bit about not crushing the secret of our own meeting with God by oversharing every wonder was a good reminder; some things are better kept between you and Him.

Yes, that's what touched me about the blind people - they didn't ask for "give us back our sight", but only "have mercy on us". I do the same thing when I pray, I start listing what the children and fruit trees in the garden need, and "Lord, have mercy" is enough. Thank God that he knows better than us.
