October 4, 2026 · 1 min read

On October 4, as part of the educational program “Spiritual Connection,” an orientation seminar “Basic principles of working with Orthodox youth” was held in the conference hall of the Cathedral of the Ascension of the Savior.

The host of the seminar was Ruslan Tkachenko, an expert at the Synodal Department for Youth Affairs, teacher, trainer and project manager.

The meeting was attended by young clergy and members of the Simbirsk Orthodox Youth movement.

During the seminar, issues related to working with youth in the Church, motivating young people involved in volunteering, organizing youth work, overcoming infantilization among youth, as well as project activities were discussed.

At the end of the orientation seminar, Ruslan Anatolyevich answered questions from those present.

The “Spiritual Connection” program of the Synodal Department for Work with Youth has been implemented since 2012 and is aimed at developing the system of youth ministry in dioceses. The presence of the shrine in the dioceses is accompanied by an extensive educational program for young people.

Good seminar, especially when they talked about how to overcome the immaturity we see in young people. Ruslan Tkachenko has worked with such programs for years, so he would have useful things to say. I hope that some of our children from Thessaloniki went to see how they do it elsewhere.

Good that they specifically talked about infantilization among the youth – this is a major problem now. Ruslan Tkachenko obviously knows what he is talking about, after so many years of projects. I wonder if they mentioned anything practical about volunteering that we could try in Varna as well.

Yes, I agree, the part about maturity and over-reliance on parents is very important today. In our own kitchen, I often see young children who find it difficult to take initiative even for simple things. Did you ask anyone from Thessaloniki who went in the end?
