Industrial heritage reconversion project: A former viaduct in Sovata will become a panoramic pedestrian routetranslated

The town hall of Sovata in Mureș county has won funding of over 25 million lei for a unique project in the country, for the reconversion of industrial heritage, Agerpres announces. It will transform a former narrow-gauge viaduct in Sovata into a panoramic pedestrian route.
"The nearly century-old structure, abandoned for about three decades, is transformed into a sustainable urban corridor and panoramic pedestrian route," explained Mayor László Zsolt Fülöp.
"We want the complete rehabilitation of the bridge-viaduct structure and the embankment of the former railway to create an elevated promenade area above the main road entering the city of Sovata."
Viaducts of this type were built during the Austro-Hungarian occupation. The one from Sovata could be unique in Europe in that it presents a curve, explained the mayor of Sovata.
About the project The project consists of strengthening and modernizing the piers of the viaduct and the entire alignment of the former narrow gauge railway. The route will include green spaces and cycle track, preserving the appearance and architecture of the last century.
