The first organ donation after 15 years in Alba Iulia: Four lives were savedtranslated

An organ donation took place on Sunday at the Alba Iulia Emergency County Hospital, for the first time after 15 years. The gesture by the family of a 38-year-old brain-dead donor has given four patients in need of a transplant a chance at life.

According to a press release sent by the institution, four specialized medical teams, two from Romania and two from Switzerland and Germany, participated in the sampling procedure.

"Following this noble gesture, two kidney transplants were performed at the Clinical Institute of Urology and Renal Transplantation (ICUTR) Cluj. Since no compatible patients were identified for heart and lungs in Romania, the organs were offered to transplant centers abroad through FOEDUS, the European organ exchange platform."
