The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, promulgated on Monday the law regarding the declaration of Archpriest Aurel Munteanu as a martyr and hero of the nation, as well as the establishment of the Day of Romanian Martyrs in Huedin.
The normative act, adopted by the Chamber of Deputies on June 30, recognizes the cultural, national, social and ecclesiastical activity carried out by Father Aurel Munteanu in the area of Huedin and the Vlădeasa Mountains, as well as his martyrdom, after the occupation of northern Transylvania following the Vienna Dictatorship.
In a message on the Facebook page, the Archdeacon of Huedin, Father Dan Luputan, thanked the head of state for this step, considering that it represents "a gesture of respect for the memory of those who suffered and an important step for honoring the historical truth".
At the same time, the law establishes that September 10 is established as the Day of the Romanian Martyrs in Huedin, in memory of Archpriest Aurel Munteanu, gendarme Gheorghe Nicula and the other Romanians who sacrificed their lives.
