Premiere of New Divine Liturgy Setting in Memory of Archbishop Dimitri to take place in Dallas, TX

On Friday, August 28, and Sunday, August 30, His Grace Bishop Gerasim of Fort Worth, Locum Tenens of the Diocese of the South, will preside at the celebration of the Divine Liturgy at St. Seraphim Orthodox Cathedral in Dallas, TX, for the premiere of a new musical setting of the Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom.

The new setting, “The Divine Liturgy for Small and Large Choirs,” was composed by Dr. Nicholas Reeves for the multiple liturgical ensembles of St. Seraphim Cathedral. The setting is arranged to accommodate both choirs with fewer members, as will be heard on August 28, and larger cathedral choirs, which will sing the premiere on August 30.

The work is dedicated to the memory of His Eminence Archbishop Dmitri of Dallas and the South. All English and Spanish translations from the original Greek and Church Slavonic used in the setting are the work of Archbishop Dmitri.

Since 2024, the choirs of St. Seraphim Cathedral have been preparing for the premiere through workshops, sectional rehearsals, and full ensemble rehearsals.

Both services will begin at 9:30 AM CST at St. Seraphim Orthodox Cathedral in Dallas.

It's good news. The Reeves setting seems convenient for small and large choirs at the same time, especially in many of our churches where sometimes the singers are few. Dimitri Metropolitan's translations are the most correct and familiar to me, thanks for honoring his memory in this way.

Dear brothers, I am very glad that this will be performed in both a small and a large ensemble - here in Podgorica we often sing with only three or four voices, so this kind of work by Reeves will come in handy. I am especially happy that there are translations by Bishop Dimitrija, his books are still on my shelf today. Will the note be recorded so we can try it later?

It is good that Reeves composed it for small and large choirs, here in Tetovo we often sing with five or six people and we always need something practical. Archbishop Dimitri's translations are my favorite, especially in English, we also used them in our parish. I'll look for that video review to see how it sounds.

Hello, I'm very glad that they thought of this setting for small choirs as well, because here in Timișoara sometimes there are only four or five of us in the pew on Sunday morning. I have known Archbishop Dmitri's translations for many years, we also use them at St. Elias. I'll look for that video preview.
