Prayer platform marks St. Teresa’s canonization anniversary by taking petitions to her tomb

September 4, 2026 · 1 min read

Sept. 4 marks the 10th anniversary of the canonization of St. Teresa of Calcutta , an occasion the prayer platform Hozana is commemorating by taking prayer intentions from people around the world to her tomb.

The platform will collect the intentions and deliver them to the Motherhouse of the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta (Kolkata), India, where the saintʼs remains are laid to rest.

As Sharael Sánchez, head of Hozana’s Spanish-language division, explained to ACI Prensa, the Spanish-language sister service of EWTN News, the initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Missionaries of Charity and is seeking to enable “those who cannot travel to Kolkata to entrust what they carry in their hearts to that place.”

The response to this initiative has been significant. Last year alone, more than 700 intentions were submitted, written in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese.

Хорошая идея с этими намерениями. У нас в кружке как раз на прошлой неделе говорили о святой Терезе, и я сам бы отправил пару просьб — особенно за маму, которая болеет. Интересно, сколько в этом году наберут, больше семисот?

Yes, the prayers for the mother thing is a good idea. Last year there were over 700 requests from so many languages - it will be exciting to see whether they can manage more this time. I will also send in an intention for a sick friend.

Yes, the idea with the intentions sent to the tomb of Saint Teresa seems good to me, especially since last year they collected over 700 in so many languages. I would also send one for my two year old who has had a longer cold. Do I still get them now, before September 4th?

Good business with these intentions, especially when people from different countries send requests for sick relatives, like Grigoriy for his mother or Viorica for his daughter. Last year over 700 - I wonder if they will exceed this time. I would also send one for my wife's health, because she is often tired lately.

Yes, I think I'm still receiving them now, the initiative is clearly open until September 4. I would send without hesitation for your little girl - a long cold at two years old is tiring for parents too. Have you used Hozana before or is this your first time?
