Where Two or Three Agree: Common Prayer at Orthodox House

September 5, 2026 · 1 min read

In the quiet rhythm of our shared faith, there lies a timeless practice that binds us closer to God and to one another: praying together in agreement. This ancient Orthodox tradition, rooted deeply in the words of Christ Himself—“Where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them” (Matthew 18:19)—is now beautifully alive within the Orthodox House Social community. Today, we see this living faith in action, with eleven active prayer groups uniting faithful hearts across the globe. Each group maintains a sacred list of names—those who are ill, those we remember in prayer for the departed—who are lifted up in the shared supplication of the faithful.

Tonight, at 21:00 UTC, the global “Universal Prayer for Peace” group invites all of us to join in this ancient, unifying act. A gentle reminder will reach you shortly before the hour, drawing us all to the same moment of prayer, no matter our location. This is not merely a schedule; it is a tangible expression of our communion, a visible sign of our common purpose before the Lord.

Perhaps your own parish, your beloved diocese, or a community of friends yearns for this sacred rhythm. You can easily create your own prayer group, inviting others to join in lifting specific intentions, keeping a commemoration list that nourishes the spiritual life of your community. Let the spirit of Matthew 18:19 guide you. Come and find your place in this vibrant, living prayer. Visit the Prayers section of Orthodox House Social to discover all groups, join tonight’s peace prayer, or begin your own. Let us gather in His name, as He promised.

It is good that there are so many groups, I myself thought that we should read the evening prayers more regularly at home with the family. I won't make it to 21:00 UTC, but I'll add two names to my list tomorrow morning, one sick neighbor and one dead.

That's a good point about family prayers at home, Mariam. My wife and I try to keep evening prayers going with whoever's around, though it slips sometimes after a long day at the shop. I'll add those two names to my list tomorrow morning too.
