One Prayer, Many Hearts: Praying by Agreement at Orthodox House

July 20, 2026 · 1 min read

There is a beautiful rhythm to the prayers of the faithful, a harmony that echoes through the ages. In the heart of our Orthodox tradition lies the ancient practice of praying by agreement—gathered in spirit, lifting the same prayer at the same hour, as our Lord promised in Matthew 18:19. It is a simple, powerful way to weave our individual petitions into a single, strong thread of intercession for the whole Church.

At Orthodox House Social, this living tradition is alive. Right now, one dedicated group is already praying together, two souls united in the common hour. Tonight, we invite you to join our global community in the "Universal Prayer for Peace," gathering at 21:00 UTC. Simply set your reminder, and at that hour, join with brothers and sisters across the globe who are lifting this same plea for peace in our troubled world. Each group maintains a list of names—those who are ill, the departed, the needs of the Church—and members receive a gentle reminder just before the hour, a quiet summons to join the communion of prayer.

This is your invitation, dear brother or sister. Would you like to bring this ancient practice to your own parish, your diocese, or your local Church family? It is so simple to create a group for your own community. Feel the warmth of shared prayer, the strength found in unity. We warmly welcome you to find the Prayers section and discover the simple, profound beauty of praying together. The hour is near.

Thank you, Timofey, for writing about Yekaterinburg. Here in Krasnodar, 21:00 UTC is also already night, but I also set an alarm and pray for the sick people on the list. As for coming - yes, you can, just show the priest how to create a group in “Prayers”, two women in our choir have already done this for their own.
