The ruling bishop performed an evening service at St. Simeon's Cathedraltranslated

September 3, 2026 · 1 min read

On the eve of the feast of the Presentation of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God, Metropolitan Alexy of Chelyabinsk and Miass performed an evening service with a polyeleos in the St. Simeon Cathedral. The archpastor and clergy of the cathedral read an akathist to the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. Priest Andrei Grigoriev anointed the believers with consecrated oil. The Feast of the Presentation of the Vladimir Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary was established in memory of the salvation of Moscow from the invasion of Tamerlane in 1395. At a time when the conqueror threatened the capital, the revered image of the Most Holy Theotokos was taken out of Vladimir in a religious procession. People stood on their knees on the road and prayed: “Mother of God, save the Russian land!” At the hour when the residents of Moscow met the icon on Kuchkovo Field, Tamerlane saw in a dream a mountain, from the top of which the saints were walking towards him, and the Majestic Woman appeared in a radiant radiance. She ordered him to leave the borders of Russia. Tamerlane gave the order to the regiments to return. CDRO Chelyabinsk Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church. All rights reserved.
