It's good that this is finally being raised at the Security Council. The reports of priests being beaten and churches seized aren't new, but hearing them read out in New York might force a few more people to look properly. I just hope the UN doesn't file it away and forget it by next week.

I agree, Stephen, those reports have been circulating for years now. My cousin in the OCA has a contact in western Ukraine who lost his parish building last spring in exactly the way they described. Let's see if the UN actually follows through this time instead of just filing another report.

My cousin's priest in the OCA mentioned something similar about a monastery near Ternopil that got seized last year. It's one thing to hear the reports, another to know real people who've lost their churches. Do you think the UN will treat this any differently than the last few times?

My cousin's neighbour in the OCA said the same thing about the priest near Lviv whose church was taken over last autumn. It's always the same pattern, isn't it. Do you reckon the UN even reads these reports before they file them away?

The bit about the priest near Lviv matches what our deacon heard from his old seminary mate in Ukraine last year. The UN probably shelves most of these reports, but at least they’re on record now. Do you know if that church has been returned or is it still under the new crowd?

The priest near Lviv you mentioned is exactly the one our quilting group prayed for after the deacon read the letter from his cousin in Ternopil. I doubt the UN does more than stamp and shelve these things, but at least the names are in the minutes now. Has your cousin’s neighbour heard any update on whether that priest was able to serve anywhere else? He was transferred to a small parish outside Ivano-Frankivsk last I heard from my own contact there. The local bishop quietly made room for him, though the building needs a new roof before winter. Your quilting group still praying for these fellows?

My cousin's priest said the same thing about that Ternopil monastery. The UN has been briefed on this stuff before and it never seems to change their approach. Do you know if your cousin's priest has heard anything more recent from the monks who were forced out?
