Peter’s Pence collected more than $65.8 million for the pope’s mission in 2025

July 3, 2026 · 1 min read

Peter’s Pence, the Holy See’s fund that gathers donations for the pope’s charitable works and the needs of the universal Church, closed 2025 with an income of 57.6 million euros ($65.8 million) and expenses of 59.8 million euros ($68.3 million).

The Vatican attributes the 2.2-million-euro ($2.5 million) deficit to currency exchange rate fluctuations, according to a report published June 30. In 2024, 58 million euros ($66.3 million) were raised.

The donations received total 54.5 million euros ($62.3 million) and came primarily from dioceses around the world (63.6%), followed by foundations, private donors, and religious institutes. The remaining 3.1 million euros came from other income, according to the Vatican.

Contributions from the United States (14.2 million euros, or $16.2 million) were particularly notable, followed by those from other countries such as Italy, Brazil, South Korea, Germany, France, and Spain.

Most donations are channeled through parish collections, direct donations including transfers and online methods, and inheritance legacies.

Of the total donations, 41.2 million euros ($47.1 million) were used to support the activities of the Holy See in the…

I note that the article mentions the sum of $16.2 million from the United States — that's a lot, but here in Poltava, when we were collecting for the repair of the church, other parish priests also said that every hryvnia from the faithful is worth it. Who could not make such an amount in our church?

In Nis, the diese is not known to raise 16 million, but 63.6% of donations come from the diese - that's what can really be raised, with every penny from the parish coffers.

In our church casket in St. George in Nis, last week we collected exactly 127 dinars from women of the age group who bring coins every Friday. That's what we can really raise, but also what's important — it doesn't have to be millions, but every penny from our parish coffers.

Yes, in Vinnytsia they repaired the roof of the church of St. Nicholas for $1,200, which was collected from the collection after the summer service. It is important that every penny from the faithful went where it was needed.

In our parish of San Juan in Barcelona last year we raised 480 euros with the collections from the three Sunday masses for the roof that was falling. It strikes me that 63.6% come from the dioceses, because in the end everything adds up to each person's cents, as the ladies of Niš say. Hopefully those 14.2 million from the United States continue to arrive.

Yes, here in Poltava, too, after the Sunday liturgy, we collect for specific things - last year we collected a little more for repairing the floor in the chapel. It's good when you see exactly where the money is going, and not just into a common pot. And how many years ago was the roof repaired in Vinnytsia?

Thank you Snežana, it's very nice that you mentioned that coffin of yours in St. George. In our parish on the Boulevard, we also have copper coins from grandmothers who come to matins, so they all collect and go on. How exactly did you divide that 127 dinars among how many women?

Yes, in Vinnytsia it turned out in a humane way - they assembled it on the roof and did it right away. Here in Lviv, too, after the liturgy, they often give money for specific needs, but sometimes the money then lies for months until it is collected. And who exactly organized that collection in St. Nicholas, parishioners or abbot?

Thank you Ljubica, you are right, those copper coins from grandmothers are the most sincere. At our place in Sveti Đorđe, we divided those 127 dinars among five elderly women who come regularly, each to enjoy themselves a little. And at your place on the Boulevard, does that money go only to Peter's Pence or also to some local needs of the parish?

Thank you Danica, it's nice that you shared it with those grandmothers, I'm sure that every penny meant a lot to them. Here at Boulevard, we give most of the copper coins from the basket to Peter's Pence, but a small part remains for parish needs, such as repairs in the church or help for some of our elders. And in your place in St. George, do these women know exactly where the money comes from or do they just receive help?

Yes, they did it really quickly in Vinnytsia, without too much dragging. Here in Odesa, too, after the service, they often collect for a specific purpose — sometimes for the bell tower, sometimes to help families — and they try to put it to work immediately. And in Lviv, who is withholding the money, the abbot or some commission?
