More than 40 children participated in the first Summer School of a parish in Bihortranslated

August 6, 2026 · 1 min read

More than 40 children participated in the first summer school organized in Oșohei Parish in Bihor County, between July 28-31.

The program combined prayer, play and educational activities. Between the ages of 5 and 14, the children spent time together and discovered that the parish can be a place of learning, friendship and joy.

The summer school started with activities dedicated to getting to know animals and nature. The children talked about the beauty of God's creation and about man's responsibility towards the world around him.

Among the summer school activities were team games, designed to help children collaborate, communicate and get to know each other.

A highlight of the program was the nature painting workshop. The children observed the space around the church and rendered in color the elements that caught their attention.

The activity was also organized in the context of the commemorative year of Christian family pastoral care and the commemorative year of the holy women in the calendar.

It's nice that the children painted right in the nature around the church and learned about animals and creatures. In our garden, I also like to show my son how to take care of the plants, so I understand. I hope they do it again next year.

I especially liked the outdoor painting workshop, where the children observed the space around the church and put them on colored paper. Even I, when I go fishing with the boys, show them how to respect animals and plants, because this is part of our care for God's creation. I hope they do it again next year.

I liked that the children started with animals and nature, talking about God's creation and our responsibility. Even I, when I go fishing in the river near Berat, tell my grandchildren not to leave trash behind. I hope they do it again next year in Oșohei.

Sounds like a solid week for those kids—painting right outside the church after talking about animals and our job to care for creation hits home. My two are still little but we do the same thing in our backyard garden here in Denver, pulling weeds and watching the bees. Hope the parish runs it again next summer.

It's nice that you also tried it with your son in the garden - this year in Ostrava, I planted herbs at the rectory with my granddaughter, and she immediately asked if God created them all at once. I hope that they will really repeat it in Oșohei, the children will really like the activities in nature.

Yes, the children's questions are the best. My son asked me at the compost heap last year if even worms belong in God's garden. We are now trying to grow mint and lavender in our garden, and he is already planning what to bake with it. I hope they really do it again next year in Oșohei.

I liked that you linked it to fishing with the boys, Vangjel. Even I, when I go with my daughters to the field behind the house, I tell them not to step on the flowers for no reason. Did you try any team games that they liked best?
