Patriarch Daniel: The conjugal family and the ecclesial family are icons of the love of the Holy Trinitytranslated

September 3, 2026 · 1 min read

His Beatitude Father Patriarch Daniel emphasized the importance of the family for humanity at the closing ceremony of the International Meeting of Orthodox Youth 2026, held on Thursday at the National Cathedral.

"The entire conjugal family, consisting of man, woman and children, is a blessing and a beneficence of God for the Church, the nation and humanity," said His Beatitude.

Father Patriarch Daniel warned that the main crisis of the family is the one "caused by the loss of the sacred meaning of human life and humble and giving (generous) love. For this reason, it is necessary to reaffirm the importance of the conjugal family and its connection with the ecclesial family or the Eucharistic community, based on the communion of people with God".

Full message:

The part about the crisis coming from losing the sacred meaning of life and humble generous love really hit home. My niece and her husband in Cambridge have been drifting that way, and it took joining our parish's young families group to start seeing their marriage as tied to the Eucharist again. Simple reminder, but it matters.
