Patriarchate of Jerusalem commemorates translation of relics of Holy Hieromartyr Philoumenos

On Sunday, 30th August 2026, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem commemorated the translation of the relics of the Holy Hieromartyr Philoumenos of the Holy Sepulchre Brotherhood from the place of his burial in the Cemetery of Holy Zion to the place of his martyrdom, at Jacob’s Well, where he had served as Guardian and Hegumen.

This event, which took place in the year 2008, was solemnly celebrated by the Divine Liturgy, presided over by Archbishop Philoumenos of Pella, concelebrating with Archimandrite Ignatios, Hegumen of Beit Jala, and the parish Priests of the neighbouring Communities of the Well. The chanting was rendered in Greek by the chanter, Dr Yacoub, on the right, and in Arabic by the chanters of the neighbouring Communities of the Well, on the left, while faithful from the surrounding areas and a small number of pilgrims joined in prayer.

The Divine Liturgy was followed by refreshments and a meal offered by the Hegumen of the Well and founder of the Holy Church of this Pilgrimage, Archimandrite Ioustinos.
