Patriarchate of Jerusalem called for protection of civilians and just peace in Gaza

The Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem expressed its sorrow over the death of Maisa Daoud and her daughter Mary, who, according to the Patriarchate, were killed in an airstrike on their home in Gaza in the early hours of October 3.
In a statement, the Patriarchate referred to the two victims as “martyrs” and extended its condolences to their family and loved ones.
“In sorrow and in the hope of the Resurrection, we pray for the repose of the souls of Maisa and Mary,” the Patriarchate said. “May the Lord grant them rest where all pain and sighing have passed away, and grant their family patience and consolation.”
The Patriarchate emphasized the sanctity of human life, stating: “Every person is created in the image of God. Every human life is sacred.”
It also said that it remembers all the people of Gaza in its prayers, asking for “mercy for the departed, healing for the wounded and strength for the bereaved.”
Concluding its statement, the Jerusalem Patriarchate renewed its appeal for an end to the hostilities and for the protection of civilians.
