Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria reopens renovated Church of Saint George in Chios (VIDEO)
The reopening of the renovated Church of Saint George in Sykousis, Chios, was celebrated with particular solemnity in the presence of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa.
Patriarch Theodore officiated at the service marking the reopening of the church, attended by clergy, representatives of the local authorities and a large number of faithful. The ceremony marked the return of the historic church to liturgical use following the completion of extensive renovation works, according to local media.
A decisive contribution to the restoration was made by benefactor Nikolaos Vafeias, whose donation made the project possible and helped preserve an important monument of the ecclesiastical and cultural heritage of Chios.
Following the reopening ceremony, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated with the participation of local residents and visitors.
The completion of the restoration and the reopening of the Church of Saint George was a significant occasion for the local community of Sykousis, allowing the historic church to regain its former splendor and continue its liturgical and spiritual presence in the area.
